The wind potential of some of this mountain ridge is obvious imho due to the readily apparent dwarfing of the trees along certain segments of this ridge.I believe the dwarfing of trees must be due to the wind since on other areas of the ridgetop the trees aren't as dwarfed. The trees are much more dwarfed than in areas of western Oklahoma I'm familiar with where wind turbines have already proven their economic potential. As we drove along I began to visualize long lines of turbines along similar ridgetops providing electricity and economic development I've read since returning home that local nimbyist groups are delaying implimentation of ridgetop wind turbine projects in other areas of the USA . http : www.wind-watch.org news 2009 12 03

  • we should assume the Earth also is capable of generating hydrocarbons

    Updated: 2010-01-16 01:28:40

thttp://www.wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=47159

Our hinking agrees with that of Cornell astronomer Thomas Gold, who in his 1998 book, "The Deep Hot Biosphere: The Myth of Fossil Fuels," argued that hydrocarbons are formed naturally in our planetary system and beyond. Dr. Gold noted that Saturn, Jupiter, Uranus and Neptune have large admixtures of hydrocarbons in their atmospheres, chiefly in the form of hydrocarbons, mainly methane. He commented that Titan, a moon of Saturn, has clouds formed of methane and ethane. Dr. Gold doubted that there ever were "stagnant swamps" or dinosaurs on Titan. If hydrocarbons could be formed naturally on other planets, Dr. Gold argued we should assume the Earth also is capable of generating hydrocarbons without the need for the debris of photosynthesized life to decay into oil.

I'm still betting that trillions of dollars will be spent over the coming decades to cut waste , build more wind turbines and solar plants , erect a long distance HVDC transmission grid , implement a smart grid with micro-islanding capabilities , stimulate a rail renaissance , and try to keep the American machine humming . That's why I call it the greatest investment event of the century The investment opportunity in the Southwest is absolutely staggering , if the capital can be found . But should those efforts prove too little , too late — and by my count , we're already 30 years too late — the long-term fate of individual communities will be largely decided by what they do in the next two decades . What they have at the end of that period may be what they'll have to live with for many decades afterward . The resources they depend on today may be
